Royal Wedding

Dear Roberta,

Since you have a fondness in your heart for “the other side of the pond,” I thought you would appreciate this….Seriously the first thing I did this morning was spring out of bed and check out some Royal Wedding pics (This pic via nytimes). Kate’s veil was gorgeous

and her dress was very Grace Kelley-esque. I thought as the possible future Queen of England, she might go a more dramatic route, but she stuck with simple and timeless. I caught a glimpse of the MOH’s (her sister) dress and it looked pretty fantastic. I actually saw a few articles saying she had upstaged the bride! I can’t wait to get home and check out more coverage on the big day!

I am obsessed with royal wedding fashion. It’s so classic and elegant. Seriously.

Paz,

Jem

My 27th Birthday

Dear Familia,

Happy Birthday to me!! So far, it’s been a great day. I picked Zane up at the airport last night around 11 pm and by the time we got home and settled he was the first one to wish me Happy Birthday and give me a birthday present. He told me yesterday that he had forgotten to get me a gift, but it turns out he got me a plane ticket to DC to go see him this summer. Do I have the best boyfriend, or what?? I was pretty happy just getting to see him this weekend!

Johnny, Rudy, and Madi woke up early to wish me Happy Birthday (and say hello to Zane) and then everyone woke up and instructed me to stay in the room for a few minutes. I went out and they had decorated the dining room with a very spicy theme. Literally! There were chilis, and hot sauces (tabasco and franks, two of my favs), spicy chips (flaming hot cheetos and jalepeƱo poor brothers), and hot tamale favors for tonight and tomorrow. It was awesome! They all sang me happy birthday before I tore into a bag of flaming hots! Haha.

Tonight Alysha, Auntie Lisa, and Nina are coming over and we are going to eat some delicious Mexican food from Casa Reynoso. If you’ve never tried it, you are missing out. Big time.

Paz,

Jem

Welcome to Dear Familia

Dear Familia,

It’s the eve of my 27th birthday and I am feeling very emotional. I realize that just 6 months after returning from 2 years away in Guatemala, I’m about to move across the country (literally) and be separated from you again. Dear Familia is my way of keeping in touch with my beloved friends and family scattered around the country (and world!).

With 2280 miles and (sometimes) 3 hours separating us, it might be hard to see or call each other often. No matter where you are or what time it is, you can just open up my blog and see what has been happening in my life, what I’m thinking about, and what I’m loving or hating right now. It’s definitely going to be random and not every post will interest every person, but read and comment at your leisure.

I love you all very much and without your love and support, I would not be where I am today. I want you to know what I am doing in my life with the strength you give me!

Paz,

Jem
